JOHN SHOWMAN / ABOUT THE DVD

On this DVD, John Showman teaches fiddle players, whether in old-time, bluegrass or even celtic music, how to get more tone and groove into their playing by going beyond one-note-per-bow bowing. Beginning with a detailed review of proper and relaxed bowing technique, John then shows how to add varied bowing moves, such as shuffling, syncopation, double stops and free-form bowing, to help the player achieve improved "feel" and "groovy-ness".

Instead of attempting to teach the player a large number of tunes, John goes in-depth on just three: the traditional fiddle tunes Ragtime Annie and Bill Cheatham, and an original composition, Pumpkin Patch. He presents two versions of each tune: the first a simpler one demonstrating a specific new technique, and then a more advanced all-in "performance version" putting all of the concepts together. From the range of ideas presented the student can select individual ones that can be adapted for use in other fiddle tunes or even songs.

All of the material, including both versions of each tune, are fully notated in the accompanying booklet
